PORTO ERCOLE:

Located on the southern side of the promontory, it is a picturesque seaside village that has long been under Spanish rule.

The new part is found at the bottom as soon as you arrive and it is a well-known tourist port with bars and restaurants, the old residential center, which you reach by continuing along the road and opens inside the walls at the foot of the Spanish fortress. It is advisable to take a walk through its alleys, its narrow streets, the squares overlooking the sea and the stairs, is a suggestive place closed to traffic, where the masters are the sea and the atmosphere of an old fishing village.

We can admire three strong:

  • Forte Filippo
  • The Aldobrandesca Rock
  • Forte Stella

The first two can only be seen from the outside, as they are private dwellings; while Forte Stella can be visited.

ORBETELLO:

It is located right in the middle between the Laguna di Ponente and that of Levante.

A road built on an artificial embankment (the dam) connects it to Monte Argentario.

What to see in Orbetello? The Mill!

Continue along the west lagoon. You will arrive at the most representative stage of the itinerary, the symbol par excellence of the city of Orbetello: the Spanish Mill. It is the only windmill that has survived of a series of nine built by the Sienese during the fifteenth century. Together with the others, it was used to grind flour for the inhabitants of the city.
